The camel walk is a ragtime dance that was once common within the Nineteen Sixties. James Brown frequently used this dance in his regimen when he carried out on stage.

Origin

The camel walk originated as a ragtime dance in the early twentieth century. It was referred to as an "animal ragtime dance", because of the character of the dance.

The dance

The original camel walk began out in vaudeville presentations during the early part of the 20 th century. It changed into well liked by school students, maximum notably "flappers", as a social dance all the way through the 1910s and Nineteen Twenties. The dance received disapproval from most of the people, as the female dancers would ceaselessly rest their heads upon the lead dancer's shoulder as they danced. This used to be observed as vulgar on the time. Despite the destructive recognition, the camel walk remained popular via much of the twentieth century.

Fifties/Sixties variant

The camel walk entered the 1950s and Nineteen Sixties as a retro dance. However, unlike the crowd dance that it was within the Nineteen Twenties, this version of the camel walk was extra of a solo act. One notable performer of this dance was James Brown, who performed it when doing concerts and stage shows. Another performer of this dance used to be Arkansas Rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins. Parts of the 1950s/Sixties camel walk have been used in Michael Jackson's model of the memorable moonwalk dance. He extensively utilized it in the 90's.
